Anti-gay laws spark Russian vodka boycott

Bars around the world have stopped serving Russian vodka to protest the country's recently-enacted anti-gay laws.

The movement comes in the wake of several laws implemented by Russian president Vladimir Putin in recent months that ban same sex couples from adopting Russian-born children, allow police to arrest foreigners they suspect as being "pro gay," and outlaw "homosexual propaganda" as pornography.

In response, internationally syndicated sex columnist Dan Savage started a "Dump Russian Vodka" campaign, asking bartenders and booze enthusiasts to put the Russian stuff back on the shelf.

"Show the world that Russian persecution of gays is unacceptable," a campaign flier states. "Boycott Russian vodka until persecution of gays and their allies ends."

Bars from the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia have responded.

In ancient times the elite used "Christian atrocities" as a sword point to invadeor bully other nations. Now those elites of today use "civil rights" as a reason to bully or invade. The elite neve cared about Christian rights or civil, it's abot their hidden agenda of a one world order.

You should consider moving to Russia. The government backs the Russian Orthodox church and jails anyone who offends it. They've enacted laws against gays. They have a strong, fascist white man in charge, pretty much for life, who will continue to push a social conservative agenda. They're militaristic. All American social conservatives, particularly the Tea Party, seriously need to look into immigrating to Russia. They'd be welcomed with open arms.

Really folks, this is stupid. Do you honestly think a few vodka distilleries have any control over the laws the semi-authoratarian Russian government makes? It's like boycotting Coke and Pepsi over US foreign policy, just stupid and only harming innocent companies.

Or like has-been musicians boycotting a state that implements a law that helps protect law-abiding citizens. It's not the states fault that the prosecutors caved to media & public pressure.

Oh, my bad. The prosecutors WERE the state. Bad show guys.

When america can actually make a decent vodka then it can shout, until then it should keep its crudely manufactured vodka for disinfecting its sewers. Russian and Polish vodkas are the best in the world.

The extremists are taking over. And where one kind of bigotry is in the open, there is usually more there besides.
