Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

Soooo – Kat had kind of a gnarly accident this weekend and while she'll be okay (click for a really gross picture) it hurts a lot to click or type right now, including adding pix. We'll return to regular format shortly, but if you could bear with it for now, that'd truly rock.

If there was a coffee klatch reality cooking show, would you watch?

    1. Watch? I'd be on it.
    2. Dedicatedly. With popcorn.
    3. Maybe, if I had time and I needed a few laughs.
    4. I probably wouldn't. Even censored, I'd have to explain too much to the kids.
    5. Heck no! Don't you know those people are crazy?

However, I would not be able to eat any popcorn during that show! How to Grill, Naked, with RichardHead. i'd either choke on the kernels or accidentally bite off a finger.

Sadly, I must stand in opposition of the Queen. In every way shape & form would I endorse & encourage Naked Men Grilling. But let's be safe about it. No reason to char the man parts.

Epic fail during a meeting today...

As I was in this meeting for reasons I have yet to fathom, but can only assume are ridiculous, I decided to avoid paying attention and play angry birds on my cell phone. Little did I know that the sound (usually off) was turned on at a very high volume. Oops...

I'm also pretty sure I now know where she got her penchant for bedazzling the sh!t out of stuff. Seriously, have you ever tried to play tennis while the glare of the sun is reflecting off the silver sequined hat and shoes that your gym teacher is wearing?

Well, seeing as the subject of wine came up..... Probably not quite a 5@5, but what is/are your favorite varietal(s)?

    May 9, 2011 at 3:17 pm |
    • Jerv@CB

Hard one for me since the only wine I have had is at communion and some Turning Leaf white wine that was actually good.

      May 9, 2011 at 3:27 pm |
    • AleeD, Thread Dominatrix@SeaBee's 5@5

Occasionally, I'll drink Riesling when I'm in the mood for something sweet. But most of the wine I drink is Merlot. I don't have a fave right now because I'm still learning about them.

      What about you SeaBee?

      May 9, 2011 at 3:36 pm |
    • Mare@SeaBee

I'm a big fan of Bully Hill Wines. The "Walter" wines are too sweet, but I like the "Goat" and "Growers". I want to try the "Meat" and the "Fish" wines, but just haven't yet.

      May 9, 2011 at 3:39 pm |
    • Evil Grin

As odd as it sounds, I'm not sure I have a favorite varietal. Because so much of what I like about the wine depends on the process of the wine making itself (how it was aged, etc.), you could make two different wines from the same grapes, and I'll love one and hate the other. For instance I can adore a merlot from winery and spit out the merlot from the next.

But as a general rule I do tend to like drier, fuller reds, as long as they are fairly smooth. And I tend to prefer oak to metal barrels. I pretty much avoid fruity and dessert wines. However, I don't I mind the occasional chocolate or pepper wine. There are exceptions to every rule.

      May 9, 2011 at 3:40 pm |
    • Mildred

I like merlot a lot, but I'm not exclusive to it. If it's good, I'll drink it.

Sure! Love classix like this. Nice selection! This title always reminds me of Tool's "forty six & 2" – and vice versa.

      May 9, 2011 at 3:18 pm |
      • Evil Grin

I actually think Tool is more along the lines of classics to me. Or, you know, actual classical music. But that's a whole different thing.

        May 9, 2011 at 3:27 pm |
      • AleeD, Thread Dominatrix@EG

I guess it would depend on how you define classic music (not to be confused with Classical music).

I think of Chicago's music as classic rock because when I started forming my own opinions about music, they were among the oldies of rock. Why do you think of Tool as classic Evil G?

        May 9, 2011 at 3:42 pm |
      • Evil Grin

Probably for about the same reason. Although, they were not old at the time I started forming an appreciation for music. They are just among what I listened to first. And since it's been many years since then, I sort of put them into the "classics". Also because they are great, unique, and I have yet to hear another band that really sounds like them. Their songs have a lot of staying power. Among those who are into them, I suppose.

Hello chums. You scared me for a moment there with Kat's accident – until I looked at the picture. Looks like it hurt a lot. I hope it heals up nicely.

I have to say, I love wine season. It may not be the true start of wine season, but it's the start of it for. I always count from my first wine tasting or festival of the season. It was a pleasant weekend.

    May 9, 2011 at 11:37 am |
    • Evil Grin

It's the start of it for me, I meant to say.

      May 9, 2011 at 11:46 am |
    • Mare@EG

It's always wine season in my house. I like to try different wines – based on their name. I had "Kiss my A$$" White the other day from "Pompous A$$ Winery", and hated it. Way too sweet for a table wine. But there are others from local wineries that I want to try.

And, we're growing our own grapes – several different kinds, so I'm going to try making my own, once we get a good crop.

      May 9, 2011 at 11:51 am |
    • SeaBee@EG

Wow, didn't know that there was a wine season.... I am with Mare. It's always wine season at my house. Belonging to a couple of different wine clubs generally assures me of having a steady supply of grape juice.

      May 9, 2011 at 12:57 pm |
    • Mildred

Same here as Mare and SeaBee- it's always wine season. I don't drink it often, but it's my prefered drink.

      May 9, 2011 at 1:25 pm |
    • The Witty One@EG

I love Red Bull and Vodka season!

      May 9, 2011 at 2:01 pm |
    • Evil Grin

Honestly I don't know if there is an official wine season, but around my area, we generally refer to a "wine season" in spring through early fall, when the wineries have their special tastings and events, and you can go to the vineyards and see the grapes. Maybe it's just when people are vacationing and into finding good wine, but spring and summer tend to be when we get wine festivals, too, which just feeds the frenzy.

      May 9, 2011 at 2:05 pm |
      • Mildred

That's quite possible. Like how maple suryp is good all year, but there's sugaring season when the maple farms have their open houses. Bumper crop this year!

        May 9, 2011 at 11:23 am |
      • AleeD, Thread Dominatrix@TWO

Hmm, I'm at a loss to describe her because I don't know when you stopped watching TV. If you remember who Katie Couric is and that she left the Today Show to anchor the CBS evening news, then I can tell you that MV took over her position – but never actually replaced Katie.

My first impression of MV was my last: she is not the right woman for the job. I thought either Anne or Campbell Brown should have had Katie's job. I think Anne is going to do a terrific job!

I'm thrilled! Meredith has always seemed like such a cold fish – she always looks like she smells something funny. Ann is way overdue for the promotion. I just love her.

Talked to the parental units yesterday, and got to thinking a lot about them both. The older I get, the more I think that father pass down tons of life skills to their young'uns, and I am glad for that. Especially relevant when you think about the events of last Sunday night and how I am sure that the individual involved probably got his start in the backyard "shooting BBs in old beer cans". I wish I could pick lotto numbers like that. Actually, it was just a fluke. I just picked that horse cuz it looked like it was on fire. I know, what's up with the Frankenstein stich job? I'm gonna dip out for a while and get a different email address. Don't want to use the work mail.

How about the guy who bet $100,000.00 on a 4th place horse? I never was very good at picking the ponies. What's ya do this weekend?

Weekend was completely uneventful. I like it like that. Just left the back door open so the doggie could come and go as she pleased and did some cooking. Caught a smooth buzz Saturday. Sweet. Even if I had the money to bet 100K I couldn't do it. I'd end up with ulcers. Was WD good?

WD was chasing squirrels out of the yard, and getting under foot around the grill. Seems as tho after 10 years she would realize Daddy don't drop the meat from the grill.

Haha! Yeah, sounds like my dog as well. Gotta trim her long hair and give her a bath, which she hates, before it gets hot.

Ditto on the bee-u-tiful weekend. Worked in the yard like dogs on Sat. (still paying for that – ow). Sun we took each other to a late breakfast then went to see "Fast Five." What a fun, testosterone-filled movie that was!

Did you do anything special this weekend?
